MLA Forum - Welcome for Inaugural Issue 2-12-02Elaine K. Didier, MLA President Welcome to the inaugural issue of the MLA Forum! This new E-journal is the brainchild of the Academic and Research Libraries Division of MLA, along with the Information Literacy Roundtable and the Electronic Publications Committee, which collaborated to develop a proposal to the Executive Board. Key architects of the MLA Forum include Lothar Spang (ARLD), Mark Christel (ILRT), and Arlene Weismantel (EPS), Ruth Ann Jones (ARLD), and we owe them deep thanks for their vision, perseverance and thoughtfulness throughout the planning process. The MLA Forum offers a new medium through which members can participate in and contribute to MLA and the advancement of the profession. While sponsored by the ARLD, the journal's mission is to address issues of importance to libraries of all types across the state. To this end, the editorial board includes both public and academic librarians, executives of both the MLC and MLA, and a library and information science student. The Forum represents one of several initiatives MLA has undertaken this year to expand our use of electronic technology to more effectively communicate with and provide professional development opportunities for MLA members. I encourage you to submit articles on a wide range of themes for consideration by the editorial board. It is our goal to create a timely and intellectually challenging publication that broadens your horizons and refreshes your enthusiasm and commitment to this exciting and fast changing profession. Bon voyage and bonne chance to the MLA Forum! |
